Queting the mind

This is a part tutorial and part rant about one of the early steps of Bardon's IIH, so brace yourself. Before we begin, let me give you two very simple methods of quieting your mind, so you can taste what it feels like to have no thoughts. "Taste" is definitely a pun for the first method. Easy method of quieting your mind Try this. Stick your tongue out and grab it between your index finger and thumb; now pull it out a little. Your mental chatter should disappear; isn't that cool? Well, if you are an inner-monologue type of person, that is. If your thought process is visual instead of auditory. This didn't do anything for you. The reason is that auditory thinkers do move their tongues a tiny bit while thinking. This method stiffens the tongue and makes these microscopic movements way harder. Don't worry, you will appreciate the second method a bit more. Visual method of quieting your mind Now relax and close your eyes. Imagine a completely empty white room. Th...

Squares away

How sad is that? Well, I was about to create new planetary squares for Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, thinking it's an easy deal. Unfortunately I just read in J. Vesely's book about this problem. I originally thought that these planets will just continue in the Chaldean sequence, giving number 10 to Uranus, 11 to Neptune and 12 to Pluto. Unfortunately J. Vesely is right that the Chaldean sequence shows the planets in the order from the further to the closer (or as Chaldeans believed). That means the numbers should be 2,1,0 and you cannot make Magick squares from these numbers. J. Vesely describes a method how different numbers could be extracted but I have to research that one more before I will finally get myself some sweet new planetary squares. In the meantime I might post something about 3 philosophical principles, also known as the principles of alchemy (mercury, sulphur, salt) and their relation to the elements as it is something not so widely available on the internet.

Ancestry work

I keep hearing about the importance of ancestry work in Magick, about how it is the gate into Magick itself. Come on, people, Crowley didn't do any ancestry work, same goes for Papus, Levi, Spare. Yet all of them were pretty skilled and powerful magi. If your paradigm counts with ancestors then yes, they are important in your practice, for other paradigms, not so much. The thing is we all are different individuals with different practices, there is no key concept that would be same for all of us, some venerate ancestors, some worship deities, some conjure demons, some draw stuff on a piece of paper, and everyone can obtain the power.
